주일설교(Sermon) 시편(Psalms) 147:1
“Why I Praise God”
Guys, people like to sing. There's probably not many people who don't like singing because they're good at singing and not being able to sing.
The heat seems to have cooled down a bit now, but trot songs were a craze in Korea when Corona was in full swing.
Many trot singers have been produced, some of which have become famous stars.
I also heard a pastor from Calgary who I know said that he was able to get out of the depression of Corona a lot because of the trot.
Many people cry, laugh, rejoice and be moved by the song
I've been fond of singing since I was little. I liked it a lot.
So I sang along to the songs that touched my heart while listening to the song tape over and over again.
I sang a lot and even memorized the lyrics
I also memorized English songs.
For example, I memorized the songs like the Beatles' “Yesterday” and Simon N. Garfunkel's “Like a bridge over troubled water"
So, sometimes when I was in high school, when I sang once in a classroom, teachers and friends cheered.
Then, I started attending church for the first time during the summer vacation of my sophomore year in high school.
And started singing hymns
I didn't really know what it meant or what it was about, but I loved the song and sang it hard.
And that summer, our church loaded middle and high school students on a large tour bus and went on a picnic to Bamsagol in Mt. Jiri.
It was a one-day course that went in the morning and came in the evening, but we went, ate delicious food, played in the water, and had a good time.
And I remember singing a lot of praise on the bus going back and forth. At that time, the song we sang the most was “Siloam”.
I didn't even know what the lyrics meant, but I sang along hard.
And as I said, I personally met the Lord on the last day of the church revival meeting in April 1988. I realized that I was a sinner, and how sorry I was to the Lord, and how thankful I was for the grace of the cross.
I don't know how many times I cried and cried and prayed to God to repent and give thanks.
And when I came out of the church, the leaves of the trees along the street were all swaying in the wind, and it felt like praising God.
And since then, my prayer life has changed and my praise life has also changed.
From then on, especially while praising, I sang many praise songs with tears in my eyes as I was thankful for the grace of the Lord.
I truly sang this praise from my heart to my heart
Before, I loved and sang along to popular and pop songs, but I started singing along to hymns and hymns while attending church.
And after meeting the Lord, the songs of the world that I loved so much are just like people who liked to drink and smoke and quit after meeting Jesus.
I like the songs that praise the Lord so much more than the songs of the world
So I rarely sang popular songs and only sang songs praising and praising God.
Dear friends, today's sermon is titled "Why I Praise"
Why do I praise God?
It is simply because God's grace that saved me was so great and thankful for Jesus' love on the cross.
That's why, although it's not enough, I sing because I want to exalt him, glorify him, and worship him with my voice.
And also to be honest, I praise God because when I do, I always experience comfort, strength, and happiness from God.
Friends, if my heart was darkened, anxious, and had a hard time praising God, it would have been difficult for me to sing praises.
On the other hand, when I praise God, the darkness in my heart goes away, my worries and worries go away, and I feel God's love, and I always get new strength, hope, and courage. That's why I praise God.
Everyone, the world's songs have tremendous power. Even today, in Korea, many people's dreams are to become professional singers.
And many people dream of wanting to become a good singer at least, even if they don't become professional singers.
And if you add up all the popular songs, including vocal music, operas and musicals around the world, the economic value is enormous.
Everyone, if there is power in the songs of the world, how much power can be found in the songs our God has given us?
If we give a typical example of that in the Bible, we can cite what happened during the reign of King Jehoshaphat.
In 2 Chronicles 20 of the Old Testament, during the reign of King Jehoshaphat of Judah, the Moabites, Ammonites, and Maonites united and led an army to defeat King Jehoshaphat.
At that time, King Jehoshaphat, who was at a military disadvantage, prayed earnestly to God, and finally trusted God and fought the enemies.
But they put people singing God in front of the soldiers to praise God in front of the enemies.
And what happened?
Let's look at 2 Chronicles 20:21 and 22.
“After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the LORD and to praise him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying: "Give thanks to the LORD, for his love endures forever."
As they began to sing and praise, the LORD set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated.” (2 Chronicles 20:21-22)
God gladly listened to their praise and defeated the enemies
Hallelujah!!
God is pleased with the praise of the faith of the people of faith and is with him in the praise.
That is why Psalm 22:3 says, “But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.(KJV)” (Psalm 22:3).
God comes and is with the people of faith in the praise of faith.
So there is great power in the praise of true faith.
In March 2014, there was a boy named Willie Myrick, who was kidnapped in Atlanta, USA and released three hours later.
He received a good religious education from his grandmother from a young age. One evening while playing in front of the house, a car approached and a man came down and suddenly covered his mouth and loaded Willie into the car and left.
At first, Willie was so startled and distracted, but after a while he calmed down and started singing his favorite song, "Every Praise".
Then the kidnapper yelled at him to be quiet, but the boy continued to sing louder.
The kidnapper, who had been circling the city of Atlanta for three hours, became exhausted after three hours, dropped him on a corner of the road and ran away.
Hearing this news, gospel singer Hezquay Walker, who won a Grammy Award for the song Every Praise, came from New York to Atlanta and sang this hymn at Willie's church to glorify God.
Willie thought of God who was always with him and protects him wherever he was, and he praised God nonstop for three hours. God was with him during the praise and softened the heart of the vicious hostage, so he put the boy down safely on the side of the road.
In this way, God delights in the praise of faith and dwells in it.
So praise has power.
There is power in the praise of faith itself
Therefore, when your heart is too heavy, heavy, and dark, and if you are attacked by the enemy, as I said last week, call the name of salvation, the name of life, the name of Jesus, who has great and wonderful authority.
And cry out, proclaim, “In the name of Jesus of Nazareth, I command you to depart, you darkness, sorrow, fear, enemies!”
And sing praises like this boy
Exalt the name of God, exalt and praise the name of Jesus
I believe that God is pleased with us singing praises to God even in difficult and difficult circumstances and will pour peace, courage, hope and wisdom into our hearts. Hallelujah.
Guys, Why should we praise? Why do I praise?
It's because God made me a being who praises God.
Isaiah 43:7 and 21
“everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.” (Isaiah 43:7).
“the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise.” (Isaiah 43:21).
If you look at these words, God is saying that God created us to glorify God and to glorify God.
This is the purpose of human existence
It means that God designed and created us that way so that when humans praise God, they become most human and happiest.
However, Adam and Eve were tempted by the serpent in the Garden of Eden and lost this happiness of living fully praising God. But in the future, God will restore this perfect happiness in heaven.
That is why the book of Revelation says that when we go to heaven, praise fills the heavens.
If you think about it, prayer or evangelism, which is so important for our life of faith on this earth, is not necessary in heaven.
And there will be no longer need sacrifice and relief in heaven.
And all the words of the Bible will be understood at that time, and all the hidden secrets of God will be known.
And there will be no need to listen to human sermons, because God will speak directly.
Of faith, hope, and love, the most important thing is love. The Bible says that, in fact, if you go to heaven, your important faith and hope will no longer be useful.
Because it's all done, but love goes all the way to heaven, so love is important
Likewise, prayer, evangelism, sacrifice, and compassionate work disappear, but it is praise that lasts forever even in heaven.
That's why in Romans 9:5 it says, "who is God over all, forever praised! Amen." (Romans 9:5).
It means that God is a God who will be praised for ever and ever. So, how important is praise?
Pastor Kyung-jik Han once told a story he heard while studying at Princeton Theological Seminary in the United States during a sermon.
There was a professor at that school who said that before, he didn't sing hymns very diligently during worship or in general.
But he has changed since some time and now he is singing hymns very earnestly.
So, someone was curious and asked, "How did you get to sing hymns so earnestly?"
So the professor laughed and said:
"I had a dream a few years ago and in that dream I went to heaven on a high mountain. There was a big door and I knocked on it, and the door opened and Peter looked down and said, "Are you a doctor? You know and teach theology well, but that theology is of little use to us in Heaven. The most necessary thing in heaven is to sing a hymn, but you say you can't sing well yet, so go and learn more hymns and bring them."
And when Peter slammed the door shut and rolled it up, he woke up and found it was a dream.
And then, he was so nervous that he began to learn hymns and work hard from then on.
Everyone, if you go to heaven like this, praise is important, so we should live a life of praising diligently while we live on this earth.
If you look at 1 Chronicles 9:33, you will find these words
“Now these are the singers, heads of fathers' households of the Levites, who lived in the chambers of the temple free from other service; for they were engaged in their work day and night.” (1 Chronicles 9:33).
David knew how important it was to praise God.
So he says that he gave the office of praiser to the head of the Levites, to devote his office to it day and night.
They sang in the temple and taught the people to praise God.
And at that time, Israel enjoyed its spiritual heyday
David knew that the purpose of creation in our lives was to praise God. He knew very well that God is very pleased with our praise.
So he always praised
He praised God even in the wilderness days of being chased by King Saul. And even after he sinned with Bathsheba, he repented and praised God.
And he praised God even though he was being chased by his son Absalom.
So David did not fall spiritually even though he had many hardships and sins.
And finally, he was able to be evaluated as a person after God's heart as a whole.
So, looking at the books of Kings and Chronicles, God sets the standard of life and godliness for all kings as the time of King David.
God wanted all kings to walk the path of King David.
Beloved, in today's text, the poet is proclaiming
“Praise the LORD. How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him!” (Psalm 147:1).
Praise God, who is our Creator and Savior, is a good and beautiful thing, and it is so right.
This is also the original purpose for which God created us.
However, one thing to be careful about, as I said last week, when you use the name of Jesus, you treat it like some kind of magic spell, and you should not use it for my own benefit, but as I said that it is used only for the glory of God, praise is not for my benefit, but only to increase the glory of God. that should be praised
I believe that the miracle that happened to Paul and Silas will happen when we praise God with a pure heart and give thanks and praise God with a pure heart, rather than expecting the results of praise and praising God even in the midst of suffering.
As I said before all of you, I praise God for the grace of God that saved me and the love of Jesus on the cross is so great and grateful.
And when I praise, I always experience comfort, strength, and happiness from God.
So I will not stop praising God until the day I die, and I believe that my praise will continue forever in heaven.
And I eagerly look forward to the day when we will be together in that beautiful praise in heaven.
everyone
I believe that praising God as in today's text is the best, most beautiful, and proper thing we humans do.
And when we praise, we will experience the presence of God and experience the amazing grace and power of praise.
And I believe that you will experience the greatest happiness in praise.
I bless you in the name of the Lord that we all glorify God while praising God and be me and you who live while pleasing God.
