January 29, 2023
“The Power of the Blood of Jesus”
According to Romans 1:16, The apostle Paul is saying
“I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.” (Romans 1:16).
Guys, what is the gospel? The good news is the blessed news. Then what is the blessed and good news?
The Bible says that Jesus, the Son of God, came to this earth in the form of a man and took our sins as a substitute to save us, sinners who have no choice but to die because of our sins and to be judged in hell, where we can only be destroyed forever because of our sins. It is the news that He died to atone for our sins, and that He rose again on the third day. So the way to salvation has been opened, the way to eternal life, and the way to heaven has been opened.
This is the gospel, and the apostle Paul says, “This gospel is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.”
In other words, the gospel is power
So what kind of power is the gospel specifically?
For this we must analyze what constitutes the gospel.
Guys, the gospel is largely composed of two things. The first is the cross and the second is the resurrection. Therefore, the power of the gospel is that the cross is the power and the resurrection is the power.
First, before talking about the power of the cross, let's think about the power of resurrection.
What power does resurrection have? Literally, resurrection is the ability to overcome death. Not a single sinner can be resurrected.
However, the resurrection that Jesus did means that he comes back to life and lives forever. Because Jesus is the sinless Son of God, in fact, death given as a result of sin cannot overcome him, so resurrection is the power to overcome death. Not even one of us has overcome death. There is no one, only Jesus has overcome
And Jesus promised, John 11
“Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies;.
and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?"” (John 11:25-26)
Everyone, because of the resurrection of Jesus, all of us who believe in Jesus now have a powerful hope. What kind of hope is this?
“He who believes in me will live, even though he dies;.
and whoever lives and believes in me will never die”
Even if I die, I have the hope of living again and of living forever.
This is a truly powerful hope.
In this way, I believe that the resurrection of Jesus itself is the power to overcome the power of death and the power of the devil, and to those of us who believe, it is an amazing power that brings strong hope for resurrection and eternal life.
Now let's think about the cross.
Everyone, the cross means that Jesus suffered and died on the cross for our sins.
But in fact, we say the cross, the cross, the grace of the cross, and the love of the cross, but the cross itself is just a form of death. The cross has no power. So where is the ability?
Yes, there is power in the blood that Jesus shed on the cross.
That there is amazing power in the blood of Jesus is the subject of the message I want to testify to you today.
Then, what kind of power is there in the blood of Jesus? There can be many things, but today I will share three important ones.
First, the blood of Jesus has the power of atonement to atone for our sins. This is the most important and fundamental power.
This is 1 John 1:7.
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7).
If we believe in Jesus and become children of God and walk in the light of God, then the blood of His son Jesus cleanses us from all sins.
Guys, when human beings, who were created holy by God in the image of God, fell into the temptation of the serpent, disobeyed, sinned, and became sinners, the person who felt the most pain was actually God. But God did not forsake human and made a plan to save
However, in order to save sinners, the most important thing was to forgive their sins.
However, it was impossible to just forgive, so what God ordained was the bloody atonement system.
This is Leviticus 17:11.
“For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one's life.” (Leviticus 17:11).
God established the law that blood can atone for sins, but in order for the sinner to atone for his sins, he must shed his own blood. Then sins may be forgiven, but all die.
So, in order to save people and forgive sins, the blood of an animal without blemish was shed instead of the sinner.
This is the sacrificial system
Usually, a sinner brings an animal sacrifice to atone for his sins and lays his hands on the animal.
This ordination is not an ordination of blessing, it is an ordination of imputation.
It is the laying on of hands that puts all of one's sins on the beast, and a sinner directly kills the beast with the sword.
Then the skin is peeled and cut into pieces. At this time, it is covered in blood, and the internal organs are washed with water.
In this way, the sinner thinks of the seriousness of his sin as he sees an innocent animal die and bleed instead of him because of his sin.
Feeling that the price of sin is so grievous, therefore think that he shouldn't commit a sin.
The price of your sins comes with the shedding of blood.
A miserable and gruesome bloodshed follows.
This is what Jesus did on the cross. Of course, he had already been whipped before that, so his flesh was ripped out and blood was oozing out. In addition, he wore a crown of thorns. Nails went through his hands and feet, and soldiers pierced his side with spears.
Jesus' whole body was covered in blood
According to the Bible, Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist.
Why did He accept it because He were humble? It was to fulfill God's will and contains a precious spiritual secret.
In John 1:29, John the Baptist turned to Jesus and said, “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29).
Jesus is saying that he came to this world as the Lamb of God who took away the sins of all mankind and went up on the cross of Calvary.
And when Jesus was baptized, John the Baptist laid his hands on Jesus.
What does this mean?
As I said before, He is God who atones for human sins through the sacrificial system.
However, in order for this sacrificial system to be established, there must be a sinner, a sacrifice, and a priest.
There is a sinner here. Who is it? All mankind is a sinner.
and there is an offering
The holy sacrifice was made by Jesus, the Lamb of God, and a priest is needed. Who is the priest? John the Baptist is the priest.
John the Baptist's father and mother were descendants of the priests of Aaron. Therefore, John the Baptist's blood runs through the blood of priests.
Originally, a sinner should lay his hands on the sacrifice, but John the Baptist, a priest, baptizes Jesus, the sacrifice, and at the same time lays his hands on Jesus, on behalf of mankind, the sinner.
And the sinner kills the sheep himself, and later, sinners such as Pilate, Jewish religious leaders, and Roman soldiers work together to shed Jesus' blood on the cross.
In this way, Jesus fulfilled his role as a sacrifice to atone for the sins of mankind. That is why Jesus said “It is finished” just before dying on the cross.
The Lamb of God who takes away the sins of all mankind in place of the sins of the world
It is said that it is finished because He has completed the task of the Lamb of God to atone for the sins of mankind.
And just as the blood was sprinkled on the altar and the sacrifice was burned, Jesus' blood was sprinkled on the altar of the cross of Calvary. He went through all the pain on the cross, like sacrifices being burned.
Therefore, anyone who believes in the blood of Jesus as the holy blood of the Lamb of God who forgives my sins will enjoy the grace of redemption and atonement.
Hebrews 9:12.
“He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption.” (Hebrews 9:12).
I believe that only the blood of Jesus, the only righteous son of God, is the blood that has the power to atone for all our sins.
no one else's blood
Everyone, believe in the atoning power of this precious blood of Jesus and hope that you will be forgiven of your sins and saved.
And if you are saved, I hope that you will always live by praising with a warm heart and preaching the gospel of the blood of the Lord while being thrilled by the grace and love of the blood of the cross.
Second, the blood of Jesus has the power to make us holy.
It's Hebrews 13:12.
“And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood.” (Hebrews 13:12).
Revelation 7:14 is
“I answered, "Sir, you know." And he said, "These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.” (Revelation 7:14).
Everyone
The words that we washed our clothes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb means that if we believe in, rely on, give thanks to, always praise, and be close to the blood of Jesus, our hearts and souls are washed with the blood, so our lives and personalities become clean.
John Wesley, a famous English revivalist and founder of Methodism, was walking on a mountain road in England one day.
But then a robber appeared and asked Wesley to hand over the money.
But the poor pastor didn't have anything. The thief went away cursing, saying he had nothing, but then Pastor Wesley called him, "Hello, hello, I have something. Take it." Then the robber asked what it was. “I have the precious blood of Jesus, which is more precious than any other treasure. Believe in the precious blood of Jesus, too, and be forgiven of your sins and be saved.”
Then the robber said, "What a bad luck" and left the road.
Then, three years later, Pastor Wesley was giving a sermon at a church, and a member of the congregation came in front of him and said, “Pastor, do you remember me?” “Who are you?”
“Yes, I am the person who tried to rob the pastor in the mountains three years ago.
But that day, when I heard the pastor tell me to believe in the precious blood of Jesus, the precious blood of the precious blood of the precious blood kept coming from my ears. Eventually, I went to church and repented and believed in Jesus and became a new person. It’s all thanks to the pastor’s grace.”
There is a story that Pastor Wesley was also delighted with this and blessed him.
Everyone, please believe that the blood of Jesus has the power to sanctify and make you a clean and pure new person.
Third, the blood of Jesus has the power to resist and overcome the devil.
Revelation 12:11 is
“They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.” (Revelation 12:11).
In Ephesians 6, we see the full armor we must have in spiritual warfare. The weapon of attack here is the sword of the Spirit, the word of God.
However, looking at today's Word, one more thing appears along with the Word, and that is the blood of the Lamb, Jesus Christ.
It is said that a grandmother in her 70s was evangelized and started attending church.
The old lady went to church diligently for several weeks, but one Sunday she didn't come, so the pastor called and said, "Pastor, I've lived in this house for 40 years since I went to church, and I'm afraid of the house. Then our dead old man appeared in a dream and beat me. He swear, I can’t go to church.”
So the pastor went to worship with his wife, removed all the amulets from the wall of the house, printed the Apostles' Creed and the Lord's Prayer, and put them on the wall so that she could always read and pray. Also, if she feel anxious, he encouraged you to continue to read the words about the blood of Jesus and sing hymns about the blood of Jesus.
And a few days later, the old woman came out on Sunday and said, “I did as the pastor told me, so nothing happened. Thank you.”
Everyone, there are definitely tests and attacks from the spiritual devil.
James 4:7 says, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7).
How can we resist the devil and win?
I believe that if you resist in the name of Jesus while praying and praising with the Word of God and the blood of Jesus, the devil will tremble and run away.
There is power in the two components of your gospel, the resurrection of Jesus, and there is also power in the blood of Jesus.
The blood of Jesus has the most important power of atonement
Look at today's text. It says that we receive redemption from sins inherited from our ancestors, not with things like silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Jesus Christ, like a lamb without blemish.
Ladies and gentlemen, in order to atone for our sins, it cannot be the most precious silver and gold in this world. It cannot be money, fame, power, or popularity. It cannot be done with good deeds or penance. Our salvation is only one person, Jesus' precious blood, and our sins are forgiven.
Everyone, there is precious power in the blood of Jesus. It has the power to make atonement, it has the power to sanctify, and it has the power to resist and overcome the devil.
Beloved, I hope you will come to know the power and value of this precious blood.
I hope and pray that we will always live as witnesses of the gospel, humble yet bold, with the precious power of the gospel given by God, that is, the power of resurrection and the power of the precious blood of Jesus.
