주일설교(Sermon) 요한계시록(Revelation) 1:3
“성경을 사랑합시다” January 15, 2023
“Let’s love the Bible”
There is Pastor George Muller (1805-1898), who is called the saint of prayer as a man who prayed 50,000 times and received 50,000 prayer answers.
He is so famous as “the father of orphans” that he fed over 150,000 orphans with the hand of God’s grace by only praying.
However, many people know him as a man of prayer, but they do not seem to know that he was a man who loved the Bible so much.
죠지 뮬러 목사 그는 기도의 사람이면서 동시에 그의 평생에 성경을 200번 가량 읽을 만큼 말씀을 사랑하는 말씀의 사람이었습니다
어느 날 한 기자가 뮬러 목사님에게 물었습니다
“뮬러 목사님! 어떻게 그런 엄청난 일을 할 수 있었습니까?”
그러자 뮬러는 이렇게 대답했다고 합니다
Pastor George Muller was a man of prayer and at the same time a man of the Word who loved the Word to read the Bible about 200 times in his lifetime.
One day a reporter asked Pastor Mueller
“Pastor Mueller! How could you do such a great thing?”
Then Mueller replied,
“The strength of my ministry comes from the Bible. The vitality of my spiritual life is directly proportional to whether or not I read the Bible every day. I can boldly say this through my 66 years of life experience.
During the first three years of my life of faith, I did not realize the importance of the Bible.
At that time, my life was like a dead person with no joy or mission, and the days were lost in my life. However, after reading and meditating on the Bible every day, my heart was full of joy and I experienced the blessings of God.”
He also said that he made this confession.
“Until now, for more than 10 years, I had the habit of praying immediately after waking up in the morning. However, I had no peace in the Lord, and my soul was gradually dry and weary, and my inner man was not gaining strength day by day. I came to realize that it is a matter of nourishing myself with the word.
For this, I first read God's Word and meditated on it before praying. Through this, my heart received comfort, encouragement, admonition, reproof, and instruction. And as I began to pray, I experienced deep fellowship with the Lord.
My feeding of the Word was not for public ministry of the Word, nor was it to prepare sermons, but to feed my own soul.”
George Mueller was what we would call a troubled youth in today's terms.
He has lived a life of debauchery since childhood.
Even at the age of 14, on the day his mother suddenly died of illness, he stayed up all night drinking and gambling despite his young age.
And at the age of 16, while traveling with friends, he spent a week in an expensive hotel without money and then sneaked away.
Eventually, he was caught by the police and put in jail.
However, he attended a prayer meeting and experienced the presence of the living Lord, and his life changed after that.
그러나 앞에서도 말씀드렸던 것처럼 그를 온전히 변화시킨 것은 성경말씀을 사랑하게 되고 그 말씀을 가지고 기도하면서부터였습니다 이러한 삶으로 인해 죠지 뮬러는 수많은 그리스도인들로부터 존경과 사랑을 받는 위대한 하나님의 사람이 될 수 있었습니다
However, as I said before, what changed him completely was when he came to love the Bible and prayed with it. Due to this life, George Muller was able to become a great man of God who is respected and loved by many Christians.
As we well know, Psalm 1 says what kind of person is a blessed person?
“Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.
But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.” (Psalm 1:1-2).
From a religious point of view, a blessed person is not a person who is worldly successful, but a person who loves and enjoys the word of God and always reads and meditates on it, that is, a person who has a good relationship with God.
And in the text we read today, the Lord says:
“How blessed is the one who reads aloud and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and obey what is written in it, for the time is near.” (Revelation 1:3 ISV).
When we say ‘words of prophecy’ here, these words are primarily the words of the Book of Revelation.
However, this verse is not a problem at all if you look at the words of the whole Bible.
So what kind of person did the Lord say was blessed?
첫째 말씀을 읽는 자가 복이 있다고 하셨습니다
여러분 성경은 구약 39권에 929장 신약 27권에 260장해서 총 1189장으로 이루어져 있습니다 이것을 365일로 나누면 3.25장이 나옵니다 평일에 3장씩 읽고 그리고 주일날은 5장을 읽거나 그냥 하루에 평균 4장씩 꾸준히 읽으면 일 년에 일독을 하게 됩니다
First, he said that those who read the Word are blessed.
The Bible consists of 1189 chapters, 929 chapters in 39 books of the Old Testament and 260 chapters in 27 books of the New Testament.
Dividing this by 365 days gives 3.25 chapters.
If you read 3 chapters on weekdays and 5 chapters on Sundays, or if you just read an average of 4 chapters a day, you will read one in a year.
If George Mueller read the Bible more than 200 times during his 66-year ministry, he would have read at least three readings a year. This is George Mueller's confession.
“I have read the entire Bible consistently throughout my life. I have read the Bible at any time of the day, not just at set times, and I have had many times to read and pray. What a difference indeed it is to be refreshed and full of happiness, as opposed to being subjected to the trials and tribulations of daily life without any spiritual preparation.”
여러분 제가 지난 주일에도 잠깐 말씀드렸지만 한국교회 최초의 7목사님 중 한분인 길선주 목사님은 28살에 예수님을 믿고 열심히 주님과 교회를 섬기는 가운데 바쁘게 약국을 운영하는 가운데에서도 예수님믿고 4-5년만에 성경을 20번을 읽었습니다
Among the pastors I respect, there is Pastor Gil Seon-joo, one of the first 7 pastors of the Korean church. He believed in Jesus at the age of 28, served the Lord and the church diligently, and even while busy running a pharmacy, believed in Jesus and read the Bible in 4-5 years. read 20 times
And the person I am particularly challenged with is Pastor Kim Ik-doo, a famous revivalist who was also a pastor in the early days of the Korean church, who was originally a famous gangster.
However, no matter how passionately he changed after meeting Jesus, he always repented, wept and prayed, and how hard he read the Bible. After a year and a half of believing in Jesus,
He was baptized and said he had already read the Bible over 100 times.
So, how many bibles did this person read in his lifetime?
Therefore I believe that, like Pastor George Mueller, he have led many souls to the Lord by holding on to the Word and always praying and receiving the power of the Lord.
여러분 새해부터는 꼭 하나님의 말씀을 꾸준하게 읽어가는 저와 여러분 되기를 축복합니다 말씀을 꾸준히 열심히 읽으면 죠지 뮬러 목사님 고백처럼 내 영혼이살찌고 건강해지는 것을 경험하게 될 것입니다 말씀을 읽으십시오 성경을 사랑하십시오 그런 사람이 복이 있다고 예수님이 말씀 하셨습니다
Everyone, starting from the new year, I hope that you and I will continue to read the word of God.
If you read the Word steadily and diligently, you will experience that your soul will become healthy, just like Pastor George Mueller's confession. Read the Word, love the Bible, and Jesus said that such a person is blessed.
둘째로 말씀을 듣는 자가 복이 있다고 하셨습니다
Second, he said that those who hear the word are blessed.
When I was a college student, I attended a bible reading retreat. I read the whole bible in 4 days and 3 nights. About 100 people gathered at the prayer center, slept for about 7 hours a day, followed the person who read the bible in front of us and we read about 12-13 hours, excluding worship time and short breaks.
How tired I was on the evening of the third day. After dinner, I couldn't digest it, so I dozed off and nodded and read the Old Testament's prophetic book.
As you all know, how difficult and stiff the latter part of the book of prophecy is.
Then we entered Malachi, and now my eyes are starting to open. If I read a little more, my heart started beating with hope that the New Testament would come out.
Then, the reader finally read Matthew 1:1, “The genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of Abraham and David,” and I was so moved that I cried.
And from then on, I remember how much I cried while reading the New Testament, how much grace and inspiration I felt, and especially when Jesus suffered and died on the cross.
Reading and listening to the Word like this are so important. That's why Romans 10 says that faith comes from hearing.
“Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.” (Romans 10:17).
It is very important to hear the word of God
Reading with your eyes, reading with your heart, meditating, and reading is so precious. Also, hearing the words read by others is precious, and hearing precious sermons or testimonies is also very precious.
As we know well, in Nehemiah 8, there is a scene where the people wept when they heard the word of God, verses 8 and 9.
“They read from the book, from the law of God, translating to give the sense so that they understood the reading... For all the people were weeping when they heard the words of the law.” (Nehemiah 8:8-9a).
Interpreting the meaning of God's word, that is, in today's terms, listening to the sermon, the people shed tears of repentance and tears of gratitude and emotion.
The work of revival took place through the Word.
Also, in Acts 2, when people heard the sermon of Peter who received the Holy Spirit, their hearts were pierced and they were saved. A great work of revival took place.
Also, in Acts 10, Cornelius and those who were with him received the Holy Spirit while listening to Peter's sermon.
Apostle Paul also preached the Word everywhere he went, and many people heard the Word and had faith, and churches were established.
사랑하는 여러분 하나님께서 예레미야를 통해서 말씀하셨습니다
“너희는 들을지어다 귀를 기울일지어다 교만하지 말지어다 여호와께서 말씀하셨음이라”(렘13:15)
하나님의 말씀을 열심히 읽고 또한 말씀을 열심히 귀기울여 들을 때 우리는 교만하지 않고 겸손한 삶을 살아가게 될 것입니다
Beloved, God spoke through Jeremiah
“Hear and pay attention, do not be arrogant, for the LORD has spoken.” (Jeremiah 13:15).
When we read the word of God diligently and listen to the word diligently, we will live a humble life without being arrogant.
그리고 셋째로 말씀에 기록된 것을 지키는 자가 복이 있다고 말씀하셨습니다
예수님이 말씀하셨습니다
“그러므로 누구든지 나의 이 말을 듣고 행하는 자는 그 집을 반석위에 지은 지혜로운 사람 같으리니 비가 내리고 창수가 나고 바람이 불어 그 집에 부딪치되 무너지지 아니하나니 이는 주추를 반석위에 놓은 까닭이요”(마7:24-25)
And thirdly, he said that those who obey what is written in the Word are blessed.
Jesus said
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”
(Matthew 7:24-25)
The Lord says, 'He who hears my words and puts them into practice is a wise man.' And in Revelation 22, he says, "Behold, I come quickly. Blessed is he who obey the words of the prophecy of this scroll" (Revelation 22:7). You can see what he said by emphasizing once more to obey the word.
Yes, in fact, reading and listening to the Word is important, but the most important thing is to practice and obey the Word.
야고보서에도 보십시오 뭐라고 말씀하고 있습니까
“너희는 말씀을 행하는 자가 되고 듣기만 하여 자신을 속이는 자가 되지 말라”(약1:22)
“자유롭게 하는 온전한 율법을 들여다보고 있는 자는 듣고 잊어버리는 자가 아니요 실천하는 자니 이 사람은 그 행하는 일에 복을 받으리라”(약1:25)
See also the book of James. What does it say?
“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” (James 1:22).
“But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it--he will be blessed in what he does.” (James 1:25).
Everyone, among the seniors of the early faith of the Korean Church that I really respect, there was a legendary blind evangelist named Baek Sa-gyeom.
He was born in 1860 as the son of a farmer in Pyeongwon County, South Pyongan Province. Unfortunately, his father passed away when he was two years old, and he went blind from a fever when he was nine. And a year later, their mother died, and they became orphans with their older brother, and they lived as beggars for about two years. Then he learned fortune-telling and later settled in Goyang, Gyeonggi-do, became a very famous fortune teller, and became very rich.
하지만 그의 마음에는 참 기쁨이 없었습니다 그러다가 36살 때 백사겸은 인생의 참된 도가 무엇인지 간절히 알고 싶어졌습니다 마침 그때 그는 전도자로부터 전도를 받고 예수님을 믿게 됩니다 37살 때 가족들과 함께 세례를 받은 그는 그때부터 아들 백남석이 읽어주는 성경을 외우기 시작했습니다
However, there was no joy in his heart. Then, at the age of 36, Baek Sa-gyeom desperately wanted to know what the true way and truth of life was. At that time, he was preached by an evangelist and believed in Jesus. At the age of 37, he was baptized with his family. He began to memorize the Bible read by his son Baek Nam-seok.
One day, when he heard the story of Zacchaeus in Luke 19, he was deeply moved, and he organized all his possessions and distributed to the poor. From that day on, he lived the life of an evangelist by going to various regions and churches.
He said, 'I wasn't happy when I lived a wealthy life as a famous fortune teller, but I feel so happy because I share everything and go out to preach only Jesus.'
이렇게 맹인 백사겸은 아들이 읽어주는 성경을 통해 하나님을 더욱 깊히 알게 되었고 그에게 성경은 얼마나 그에게는 귀한 진리의 말씀이었던지 듣는 것으로 만족할 수 없어서 외우고 또 외웠습니다 그래서 마침내 4복음서를 다 외울 수 있게 되었고 생애의 말년에는 신약성경의 다수를 외울 수 있었다고 합니다
In this way, the blind Baek Sa-gyeom came to know God more deeply through the Bible his son read to him.
And to him, the Bible was so precious to him that he could not be satisfied with just hearing it, so he memorized it over and over again.
So, finally, he was able to memorize all four Gospels, and in the later years of his life, he was able to memorize many of the New Testament.
또한 성경 말씀은 백사겸에게는 자기 혼자만 알고 있기에는 너무나 아까운 생명의 말씀이었습니다 반드시 사람들에게 전하고 나눠주고 선포해야만 할 말씀이었습니다
Also, the words of the Bible were too precious words of life for Baek Sa-gyeom to know only himself.
It was a word that had to be preached, shared, and proclaimed to people.
So he began preaching and shouting the gospel. He preached the gospel, preaching for more than 2 hours at evangelism sites or meetings, centering on the words he memorized, and through that, countless people believed in Jesus through him, and several churches were established. Although he had a handicap called blindness, he was able to be used as a great man of God who leads countless souls to the Lord through love, passion, and obedience to the Word of God.
dear ones
The Lord is telling us today to read, hear, and obey the Word.
To put it simply, it means to know the Bible as the precious word of truth given by God, love it, be close to it, and live according to it.
It says that such a person is blessed in the eyes of God and a person whom God is pleased with.
Let's all love the Bible without exception, let's read and listen diligently
Also, let's obey and keep the word and live
I believe that this is the way we live and that we are used as a channel of God's blessing and God's grace and salvation.
Like George Muller, who read the Bible on average three times a year for 66 years and prayed with absolute trust in God, who is the Absolute, and undertook a precious ministry with the amazing grace of God who creates something out of nothing, he was able to overcome any storm in the world. I bless you in the name of the Lord that we will live a life of enjoying and sharing grace and victory while holding on to the word of God and praying without being shaken by tribulations and temptations.
